Spring Clean Your Garden!!
Give your Garden A Spring Clean!
Now that the holidays are over our minds turn towards the annual de-clutter for Spring. Not a task that any of us relish but nothing beats that sense of satisfaction when it’s done or that delightful freshness that permeates every inch of the house. The feeling of energy flowing freely through every room is both animating and energizing.
A positive and curative action then, but how many of us think about doing the same for our outdoor living space?
Sweeping away dead leaves, removing the old wood from shrubs and bushes helps to clear away old energy from the previous year as well as giving you a blank canvas for planting for the summer. Cleaning patios and spraying paths for weeds leaves the garden with a bright, fresh space ready in time for the arrival of the warmer Spring weather. Flushing out moss and debris from the gutters ensures the free flow of rainwater away from the house and leaves the paintwork spotless.
Make the most of whatever outdoor living space you have. The nicer you make it, the more you’ll use it. If you want to book a Spring clean for your garden, or would like IGS to give you a quote for gutter cleaning and maintenance, patio cleaning or path spraying, just give us a call on 01983 530242.
Planting for Health
We may not all have a big outdoor space, but planting for health is something we should all think about. By adding colour, scent or texture, even the smallest changes can enhance our personal space. We all know how a certain perfume or a vibrant sunset can boost a mood – so why not bring that into our gardens – or even indoors? Planting something in a flower bed, a pot on your patio or even a window box can make a noticeable difference.
Take a moment to consider what you want to achieve. For example, rich greens or soft pinks are relaxing, vibrant reds and oranges are invigorating and can be used to brighten up a dull or stark space. It’s not just about colour though, think about natural aromas – what would work best in the space available? Do you want to be calmed by lavender or enliven your home with the refreshing scent of mint?
Let’s not forget about the satisfaction that comes from growing. Nature and nurture can make you feel really good. Why not give your soul a real treat this Spring and plant your very own pick-me-up? To see this article in print pick up a copy of the

Look out for Snowdrops!
Look out for the snowdrops that are now emerging in our parks, woodlands and churchyards. These delicate blooms are among the first to be seen in the New Year and when it gets warmer they release a fragrance. If you look carefully at the heads you can see their green markings inside.
Spring Gardening Tips and Advice
The adverse weather conditions have made it almost impossible to get out into the garden these past few weeks. It may seem like the warmer weather is a long way off but even in these difficult times there are small preparations we can make for the forthcoming Spring. Here are a few tips and suggestions.
Pruning Wisteria
If you are lucky enough to have the beautiful wisteria growing in your garden then now is the time to be thinking about pruning the shoots back to about 4-5in. This will ensure more abundant flowers later in the year.
Deadhead Winter Bedding Plants
Prolong the displays of your winter bedding plants by deadheading any faded flowers and removing any yellow leaves. This will encourage more colourful blooms well into the Spring.
Looking After Your Flower Beds
Get some good quality mulch and distribute evenly around your flowers beds. This will add valuable nutrients to the soil. You can also give any potted plants a new lease of life by replacing the top layer of soil with a little compost.
Pruning Summer Clematis
Give your summer flowering Clematis a good prune – this may seem a little drastic but it will give the plant the chance for rapid new growth during the coming Spring.
Safety in the Garden
Of course, at this time of year it is really important to take care in the garden. Try to avoid going out in the icy conditions unless it is absolutely necessary.
